What products can be made from deep processing of quicklime
As a basic mineral resource, quicklime (CaO) can be converted into various high value-added products through deep processing techniques such as calcination, digestion, grinding, and modification, covering multiple fields such as environmental protection, building materials, chemical engineering, and medicine. Its deep processing product system and applications are as follows:
1、 Calcium hydroxide series products
This is the most fundamental direction for deep processing of quicklime. After being digested in proportion with water, quicklime can be processed into calcium hydroxide of different purities and fineness through impurity removal and grinding. Low purity products (Ca (OH) ₂ content 85% -90%) are mostly used in the construction industry as mortar additives to improve workability; High purity products (with a content of ≥ 95%) are widely used in the field of environmental protection, such as acid-base neutralization of industrial wastewater, flue gas desulfurization and denitrification. They can also be used as acidity regulators in food additives and as raw materials for antacids in the pharmaceutical industry.
2、 Calcium carbonate series products
After the digestion of quicklime to produce calcium hydroxide, carbon dioxide is introduced for carbonization reaction to prepare light calcium carbonate; If quicklime is reacted with hydrochloric acid to produce calcium chloride, and then reacted with sodium carbonate, heavy calcium carbonate can be obtained. Lightweight calcium carbonate with fine particle size (micrometer level) can be used as a filler for rubber and plastics to enhance product strength and toughness; Heavy calcium carbonate particles are coarse and commonly used in the papermaking industry as fillers to reduce costs, or in coatings to enhance coverage and wear resistance.
3、 Special functional products
Through special deep processing techniques, quicklime can also be converted into functional products. For example, by calcining quicklime in combination with other minerals, a quick setting cement additive can be made to shorten the setting time of concrete; High temperature activated quicklime can be used as an adsorbent for soil heavy metal remediation; In addition, ultrafine nanoscale calcium oxide powder can also be applied in high-end fields such as food preservation and antibacterial materials, utilizing its strong hygroscopicity and oxidizing properties to inhibit microbial growth.
The deep processing of quicklime not only extends the mineral resource industry chain, but also meets the needs of different industries through product differentiation, becoming an important path to promote the transformation of traditional mining towards high value-added and green.
