There are several methods for calculating carbon emissions from industrial kilns

The calculation method of carbon emissions from industrial kilns is a key technical means to quantify their greenhouse gas emissions. Accurately calculating carbon emissions is of practical significance for enterprises to grasp their carbon footprint, formulate emission reduction strategies, and respond to the national dual carbon policy. The current mainstream calculation methods mainly include three types, based on different data foundations and calculation principles.

The calculation method based on material balance is a common approach. The core principle is to balance the carbon elements in the fuel and raw materials input into the kiln with the carbon elements in the output products, by-products, and waste based on the law of conservation of mass, and the difference is the carbon emissions. This method requires accurate analysis of key parameters such as the carbon content of the fuel application base and the carbonate decomposition rate of the raw materials. It has strong theoretical basis and is suitable for enterprises with clear process and good data foundation.

The method based on emission factor is more widely used. The basic activity data for this method comes from fuel consumption, which is calculated by multiplying the actual consumption of various fuels by their corresponding carbon emission factors. The carbon emission factor represents the theoretical carbon emissions per unit of fuel under complete combustion conditions, usually using default values published by national or international organizations. This method is relatively easy to operate and has low difficulty in obtaining data, making it the main method used by enterprises to prepare carbon emission reports.

The method based on continuous monitoring represents a higher level of technical expertise. This method directly measures the flow rate, concentration, and other parameters of the flue gas emitted from the kiln by installing a continuous flue gas monitoring system, thereby calculating the carbon emissions in real time. The CEMS method can obtain more direct and accurate emission data, but the initial investment and operation costs are relatively high. Enterprises need to choose appropriate methods for calculating carbon emissions from industrial kilns based on their actual situation and policy requirements.
