What is the plywood production process?
Plywood, as an important man-made board widely used in furniture manufacturing, construction and packaging, has a complex and delicate production process. From the selection of logs to the packaging and storage of finished products, each step needs to be strictly controlled to ensure the quality and performance of the final product. First of all, everything starts with the selection of logs. High-quality logs are the basis for producing high-quality plywood. When selecting logs, factors such as their tree species, diameter, length and moisture content need to be considered. Common tree species include beech, camphor, eucalyptus, poplar and eucalyptus, each of which has different physical and mechanical properties and is suitable for different application scenarios.
Next is the processing of logs. This step includes log peeling, peeling and cutting into veneers. Log peeling is to fix the logs on the peeling machine and cut them into thin and uniform veneers by high-speed rotating knives. Peeling is to remove the bark and impurities on the surface of the logs to improve the quality of the veneer. After cutting into veneers, the veneers need to be dried to reduce their moisture content and prevent deformation and cracking during subsequent processing.
The dried veneers need to be spliced, glued and assembled. Splicing is to splice multiple veneers together in a criss-cross pattern in the direction of the wood grain to increase the strength and stability of the plywood. Gluing is to evenly apply environmentally friendly adhesives on the surface of the veneers so that the layers of veneers can be firmly bonded together during the subsequent pressing process. Assembly is to stack the veneers with glue in a predetermined order and number of layers to form a slab.
After the slab is formed, it needs to be cold pressed for repair. The role of cold pressing is to make the layers of veneers basically adhere together to prevent defects such as dislocation and lamination during subsequent handling and processing. At the same time, cold pressing can also increase the fluidity of the glue, so that a good glue film is formed on the surface of the veneer to avoid the phenomenon of lack of glue and dry glue.
The slab that has been repaired by cold pressing needs to be hot pressed for curing. Hot pressing is a key step in the production process of plywood. It can make multiple layers of veneer firmly bonded together under high temperature and high pressure to form plywood with high strength and stability. After the hot pressing is over, the slab needs to be placed for a period of time for cooling and curing to ensure that its internal structure is stable and avoid warping and deformation.
After the curing period is over, the slab needs to be processed by sawing, plastering and sanding. Sawing is to cut the slab into the size that meets the specifications, plastering is to remove impurities and uneven parts on the board surface, and sanding is to use a sander to finely polish the board surface to make it smooth, with clear texture and good finish.
So far, the preliminary processing flow of plywood has been completed. However, in order to obtain higher quality plywood, it is necessary to carry out multiple fine grinding and repairing, which is the so-called "three pressing, three repairing, three sawing, three sanding" process. This step can further improve the flatness and stability of plywood, reduce deformation, and improve its beauty and durability.
Finally, the plywood that has passed the inspection needs to be packaged and stored, waiting to be transported to furniture manufacturers and other application areas across the country.
