What are the criteria for selecting raw materials for lime production
The main raw materials for lime production are natural rocks containing calcium carbonate (CaCO3), such as limestone, dolomite, etc. The selection criteria are crucial and directly affect the quality and production efficiency of lime.
In terms of chemical composition, high calcium carbonate content is required in the raw materials, usually above 90%, to ensure the activity and purity of lime. At the same time, the content of magnesium oxide (MgO) should be appropriate. If producing ordinary lime, the MgO content generally does not exceed 5%; If producing magnesium lime, it needs to be controlled according to specific product requirements. The impurity content needs to be strictly controlled. Impurities such as silicon dioxide (SiO ₂), aluminum oxide (Al ₂ O3), and iron oxide (Fe ₂ O3) can reduce the quality of lime and should be minimized as much as possible.
In terms of physical properties, the block size of the raw material should be moderate. If it is too large, it will increase the difficulty and energy consumption of crushing, while if it is too small, it will easily generate dust. Generally, a block size of 100-300 millimeters is suitable. In addition, the hardness of the raw materials should be moderate to facilitate mining and processing.
The resource situation is also an important consideration factor. Raw material production areas with abundant reserves, good mining conditions, and convenient transportation should be selected to reduce production costs and ensure the continuity and stability of production.
