The main components of dolomite are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. During the calcination process, not only can calcium oxide (the main component of lime) be generated, but also magnesium oxide can be produced. The presence of magnesium oxide can improve certain properties of lime, such as increasing its resistance to hydration, making it less prone to pulverization in humid environments, and enhancing the durability of lime products. disadvantage
The temperature requirement for calcination of dolomite is relatively high, requiring more energy consumption to achieve the calcination conditions, which increases the energy consumption cost of production. Meanwhile, due to the presence of magnesium carbonate in dolomite, the magnesium oxide produced during calcination may reduce the activity of lime, which may be limited in some application fields that require high activity of lime, such as certain metallurgical and chemical processes.
